Microphone For Interview

Uniquely Relevant

Microphone For InterviewYou are uniquely relevant.

Jesus put it this way,

You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.” – Matthew 5

He then continues with another example,

You are the light of the world — like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” – Matthew 5

You are uniquely relevant.

It’s not just that you are unique.  You could be unique and still have nothing to offer.

You are more than unique.  You are uniquely relevant.

Not only does Jesus say that you are the salt of the earth bringing flavor to everything around you and making your context and your situation more delightful and satisfying because you are there — Jesus goes the extra step of highlighting the fact that because you are the salt of the earth, if you aren’t being the salt of the earth in your life, your environment, your relationships, and your work then you will truly be missed.  If the salt loses its flavor it cannot be replaced.

You are uniquely relevant.

Jesus continues with the statement, “You are the light of the world”.  And once again, He could have stopped there, but He didn’t.  To ensure that you aren’t left in doubt about your individual role in being a light for the world, Jesus once again adds clarity and emphasis by saying that your light is “like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden”.  Jesus doesn’t say that your light shouldn’t be hidden, He says that your light cannot be hidden.

You are uniquely relevant.

You are in the right place at the right time to achieve something of unique and particular value.  Someone needs to be blessed, to be reached, to be encouraged, to be supported, to be healed, to be restored, to be inspired, to be coached, to be heard, to be fed, to be clothed, to be included, to be invested in, to be visited, to be involved — there is some opportunity of unique and lasting value right where you are today.

God could have created you anywhere, but He placed you carefully where you are.

God could have created you at any point in history, but He brought you into the world now.

You may not like your situation, your context, your experience, your past choices, or your history, but God needs someone just like you, right where you find yourself today.

You are uniquely gifted with knowledge, understanding, skills, abilities, characteristics, and attributes that make you perfectly shaped to achieve something good and make the world a better place in your specific situation today.

What is God putting on your heart today?  What mission and purpose is God calling you to?  How can you invest your time, your attention, your focus, your resources, your strength, your commitment, your dedication, your passion, your faith, your leadership, and your relationship with God into the lives of those around you to make a positive impact and experience the blessings that God has promised?

You may be feeling like you aren’t qualified to make a difference or you aren’t influential enough to have an impact, but that is not what God knows about you.

You are uniquely relevant.

There is no one else like you where you are right now.  If you don’t bring the blessing, speak the truth, reach the lost and the broken, listen without fear, connect with meaning, and invest with purpose there is no second string player waiting to take your place.

The problem with taking a passive stance or accepting a victim mindset is that not only does it keep you from receiving all of the blessings that God has in store for you — it also stands in the way of you accomplishing everything that you were designed, commissioned, and empowered to achieve for those around you.  And that means that there are blessings not received, not experienced, not fulfilled because you stood in their way and prevented them from coming to pass.

Ouch!

“Wait a minute Steve! Are you saying that I can prevent God from accomplishing everything that He wants to accomplish?”

Absolutely!

That’s why Jesus didn’t just say, “You are the salt of the earth” and “You are the light of the world.”  He expanded and emphasized the unique and powerful relevance that you have to the circumstances you find yourself in today by following up to say that if you aren’t the salt, no one will be, and since you are the light, you cannot hide.

No one else is where you are right now.  No one else knows what you know.  No one else has experienced what you have experienced.  No one else has the relationships, the resources, the opportunities, and the connections that you have.  You are a complex, rich, luxurious, curated, refined, and specific treasure that is uniquely crafted and individually commissioned for a work of irreplaceable value.  There is literally no one else who can do what you can do.  You are a one of a kind phenomenon.  And so if you don’t embrace the opportunities that God is putting in front of you every day, no one else is going to step in and perform in your place.

Every day countless blessings go undone, countless joys go unrealized, countless accomplishments go unclaimed, countless connections go unmade, countless relationships go uninvested, countless promises go unfulfilled.

It’s tragic.  It’s astounding in scope.  And It’s completely unnecessary.

You are uniquely relevant.

Use it. Embrace it.  Accept it. Convert it.

Engage your life, your situation, your circumstances, your connections, your relationships, and your choices.

Don’t wait for someone else to be your salt and light.

You are the salt of the earth.  You are the light of the world.

You are uniquely relevant.

God created you on purpose for a purpose.  God called you, chose you, gifted you, empowered you.  God is giving you a better life, a broader influence, and a greater impact starting right where you are right now.

All you have to do is say “Yes!”

God already made you uniquely relevant.

You are prepared. You are equipped. You are well able.

The God of the universe is for you, is invested in you, is on your side, and is able to give you the victory.

“What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? ” – Romans 8
