Don’t Trade Justice for Tyranny

Whoever leaked Justice Samuel Alito’s draft majority opinion at the Supreme Court has violated the sacred trust of the American people and the spirit of integrity and justice that were established at the founding of our nation and have survived until this day uncompromised in that circumstance.

This crass, illegal, and dishonorable act should be investigated, and the perpetrator should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Regardless of the decisions issued by our courts, whether you politically agree or disagree with the outcomes delivered, the fact is that, by far, the most essential foundation of our nation and western civilization as a whole is the rule of law. Without it, tyrants will rise and freedom will fail.

So, be careful that you do not allow yourself to be swayed to support tyranny in the name of partisan politics, but instead demand actual justice under the rule of law from our courts and from our leaders and hold all people accountable who would overthrow that order in the name of dogma, convenience, or caprice of whatever stripe.

And, as this leak is the first example of its kind in the history of the U.S. Supreme Court, consider what lengths someone is going to in hopes of defending the greatest genocide in recorded human history.

That’s right, this oath-breaking criminal who released a draft opinion to the press before the justices of our Supreme Court came to a final decision, made the choice to destroy over 200 years of precedent and tradition to reveal the inner workings of the highest court in the land on the case which has the potential to overturn Roe v Wade.

While it is possible this leak is just the result of incompetence and coincidence with no malice of forethought, the appearance at this point certainly indicates a clear and present rationale and motive for the perpetrator — to bring pressure by whatever means available and incite protests and political action at every level of government, starting with the oval office, where the sitting U.S. President, rather than condemning the lawbreaker for violating the public trust and engaging the Department of Justice to pursue the truth and defend the law and those who practice it, was instead quick to release a reactionary political statement endorsing abortion as a “fundamental” right and using the leak as a rallying cry to turn out pro-abortion votes for the November elections.

So, as a Christian, should you be celebrating the supposed end of Roe v Wade? or should we be keeping our eye on the ball and seeking justice for the actor who has put not just our great majority Supreme Court justices at risk as they finalize their decision, but has also compromised the fundamental process of law and pursuit of justice under law for us, our country, and our civilization?

God spoke of these times when He explained this type of corruption to the prophet Habakkuk,

“Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted” .

(Habakkuk 1:4, NIV)

So, to all those who pervert justice, practice corruption, and oppose freedom, individual human rights for all, and the rule of law as the foundation of our nation, God says this,

“Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.”

(Habakkuk 1:5, NIV)

God the pronounces judgment on the wicked, specifically call out those who shed human blood,

“The cup from the Lord’s right hand is coming around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory. The violence you have done to Lebanon will overwhelm you, and your destruction of animals will terrify you. For you have shed human blood; you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them.”

(Habakkuk 2:16-17, NIV)

God’s judgment is still on the move today. God values justice, freedom, and individual human rights from conception to natural death. God calls all believers to stand for the truth and the value of every human life and explicitly condemns those who would sacrifice their children in pursuit of their own prosperity.

“You must not worship the Lord your God the way the other nations worship their gods, for they perform for their gods every detestable act that the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters as sacrifices to their gods. So be careful to obey all the commands I give you. You must not add anything to them or subtract anything from them.”

(Deuteronomy 12:30-32, NLT)

And so, as Christians, it is essential to our faith to place our full confidence, trust, and hope in Jesus Christ, and follow in his footsteps which lead to life, defend life, heal life, restore life, choose life, bless life, and protect life with every single choice. We do have a choice. So, as Moses said so clearly in his final speech to Israel before his death,

“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!”

(Deuteronomy 30:19, NLT)
