Oh My

Actual Mistakes

Oh MyIt’s one thing to be forgiven when it wasn’t actually your fault.  It’s something else entirely when you have actually caused a problem, felt the impact, and then discovered grace.

“Your sins are forgiven.”- Luke 7 (NLT)

The most revolutionary idea that Jesus introduced to the world during His time in Galilee was that actual mistakes could be forgiven.  A woman caught in the very act of adultery, a capital offense demanding the death penalty at the time, Jesus forgave.  He gave her back her life and told her,

“Go, and sin no more.” – John 8 (NLT)

Are you serious?  Is it that easy?  Shouldn’t we be punished for our sins?  In the book of Numbers the Bible tells us that the nation of Israel was forced to wander in the wilderness for 40 years before being allowed into the promised land as a result of their lack of faith.  Wasn’t that God punishing them for their sins?

“Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” – Luke 7 (NLT)

In the case of the nation of Israel, they weren’t ready, they weren’t willing, and only a few of them had the faith necessary to realize God’s promises when they first approached the promised land.  God wasn’t condemning them to suffer the consequences of their sin.  On the contrary, it was all on them — they were refusing to receive the blessings of the promises of God.  God offered to bring them into the promised land and give them the victory, but they were afraid; they doubted; they stalled out and refused to pursue the victory.  And because they were unwilling to step up to receive God’s promises, the only alternative left to them was to wait until they were strengthened, hardened, and committed by life’s journey to come back and try it again.  In their case it took forty years.  It doesn’t have to take that long with you.

It is your faith that saves you.  What are you believing for today?  Are you ready for the goodness of God? or are you refusing His blessings because you doubt, like the nation of Israel did so long ago, that He is actually capable of coming through on His promises?

God is offering you the promised land today.  God is telling you that it is possible to overcome the challenges, mistakes, errors, sins, hurts, obstacles, setbacks, and every other attack of the enemy today.

Actual mistakes require actual answers.  Actual sin requires actual forgiveness.  Actual errors require an actual solution.

Your sins are forgiven.  Go, and sin no more.  Your faith has saved you; go in peace.
