Man Walking In a Grain Field

Called and Commissioned To Bless

Man Walking In a Grain FieldWhen God called Abraham to follow Him, He commanded him to leave behind the life he had known.

“Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.” – Genesis 12

As God calls you into your destiny and offers you a better future, a hope and a vision of the favor coming your way, along with the opportunity to receive all of the promises He has in store for you — you may feel the same sense of longing and loss that Abraham likely felt when God called Him to leave behind the life he had known, the people he had grown up with, and the family that had raised him to pursue the promise of salvation, abundance, prosperity, increase, fulfillment, blessing, and success that God offered Him,

“I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” – Genesis 12

Should I stay in the safety of the context I know?

Should I protect myself from the possible risks of stepping out in faith and allowing God to work in new ways in my life?

Should I fear losing the life I have in order to embrace the life that God is offering me?

God’s promise is clear, “All the families on earth will be blessed through you”.

More than just a statement that Abraham should trust the goodness and prosperity God was offering Him personally, God was telling Abraham that he had a role to play that was bigger than him, bigger than his story, bigger than his problems, bigger than his fears or hesitations.  God was calling Abraham to step into his destiny because he was part of God’s plan to bless the entire world and all the people on it.

It can seem like you are just one small person, in one small context, with extremely limited resources or influence.  It may appear that you are different from Abraham, that you don’t have a big role to play or a big future to look forward to.  But that is not what God sees when He looks at you.

When God looks at you He sees the abilities, the gifts, the talents, and the resources that He has provided.  God sees His life flowing into, over, through, and around you.  God sees the power, the passion, the purpose, the integrity, the strength, and the potential He built into you and the opportunity He has to invest in you, through you, and for you.  God knows your strengths and weaknesses, your opportunities and threats, your flaws and your perfection, your character and your calling.  God understands your context and your situation, your relationships and your influence, your skills and your interests, your challenges and your accomplishments.

God is not calling you generically.  God is not calling you just because you are part of a class or a demographic.  God isn’t calling you because you are a woman or because you are a man.  God isn’t calling you because you are rich or because you are poor.  God isn’t assigning you to an interest group, or trying to check off a specific market segment.

God is calling you specifically.  God is calling you individually.  God is calling because of everything that has contributed to shaping you and everything that you have at your disposal.  God is calling you to leave your fear, your doubt, your anxiety, your reticence, your hesitation, your comfort, your habits, and your rituals.  God is calling you to embrace the next level, engage your higher calling, enlist your deeper connection with Him, and step boldly into a new era, confidently into a new phase, stridently into your actual destiny.

You may only have small imaginations of what is possible for you given your history, your heredity, your education, your family, your circumstances, and so on.  You may have accepted who you are and what you are capable of so long ago that now you can’t quite remember why you believed it in the first place.  You may think that you are just being reasonable, rational, or exercising common sense when you say with authority what God can’t do for you, or where God can’t take you, or how God doesn’t work that way for you.

But, if you find yourself telling God that He couldn’t possibly be calling you, that you are too set in your ways or too limited in your abilities, or whatever other excuse you are repeating to yourself right now as you read this, then listen to what God has to say about that,

“Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” – Genesis 12

You are called.  You are chosen.  God is commissioning you right now to step into a greater destiny.  And its not just for your sake — the world needs you to accept God’s mission, to embrace God’s plan, and to pursue God’s purpose.

The world will not be the same if you say no.

The world will not be able to replace you if you don’t step out in faith right now.

The world is in desperate need of someone just like you, just where you are, and ready to hear the word of God and do something about it, right now.

Don’t wait.  Don’t hesitate.  Don’t look around hoping that God is talking to someone else.  He’s not.  God wants you.

You are the one He is looking for.  And if you will step out in faith to follow God, then God “will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.”  God “will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt” And most important of all, God is telling you right now that if you will dedicate yourself to the mission and the purpose He has for you, then “All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”

There are no small purposes.  There are no insignificant people.  You are precious, unique, gifted, and chosen as a special creation, born on purpose, for a purpose.  God is calling you.  I think it’s time you answered.
