Life is Not a Test

WinningLife is not a test.

It’s not about pass/fail or making it to the top of the class.

Life is not a singular thing.  It is not a single decision or a moment in time.

Life is not about making it to the finish line or performing above the average.

Life is not a test.

God is not checking to see if you have it all right.  God isn’t sitting there with pen in hand waiting to mark an “X” or a check on every action you take, shaking His head in sad disappointment at the fact that every single person He created falls short of the plan.

Life is not a test.

It’s not like you were created to “see if you are good enough” for your creator.

Life is not a test.

Life is more like a lab experiment.  Every outcome is informative.  Every result is educational.  Every trial leads to a new understanding that allows for better, more informative trials in the future.  Every experience, good or bad, is useful, constructive, and capable of empowering you to go for the next level.  You can learn from every interaction, conversation, observation, hypothesis, and result.  You can discover revolutionary new approaches, methods, and techniques that allow you to realize the full power of this gift called life that you were given by your creator.  And, assuming you avoid the big mistakes like accidental fission, releasing a plague, or one of the other many smashups from which you can’t walk away — assuming you live to tell the tale, there is the opportunity for growth, development, and renewal every step along the way.

Life is not a test.  There is no extra credit or retakes.  You can’t make up for the past any more than you can go back and relive it.  It’s not like there is some cosmic score keeper tallying up your passes and fails to see if your life is a net positive or a net negative.

Life is fluid.  Life is dynamic.  Life is organic.  Life is change, growth, development, and more.

Life is not a test.  God is not looking to fail you for your mistakes.  God is not looking to damn you for your errors.  God is not interested in holding your head down in the flood of your past history.

“Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on Him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.” – Isaiah 55 (NIV)

Life is not a test.

God is not measuring you.  God is leading you.

God is not judging you.  God is instructing you.

God is not condemning you.  God is picking you up, dusting you off, and saying, “You’ll get it better next time”.

God is not testing you.  God is loving you, providing for you, blessing you, and giving you life.

Over and over again, no matter how long it takes — God is giving you the chance to realize who you are and what you are capable of.  God is letting you know that He is going to be with you every step of the way because you are His child, created on purpose for a purpose, and together you can do anything.

Where you may see failure, God sees opportunity.

Where you may see obstacles, God sees potential.

Where you may see defeat, God sees impending victory.

“My thoughts are completely different from yours,” says the LORD. “And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where briers grew, myrtles will sprout up. This miracle will bring great honor to the LORD’s name; it will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.” – Isaiah 55 (NLT)

The enemy wants you to believe that one failure, one mistake, one mistep, one error is enough to put you out of God’s grace, beyond God’s reach, and outside of God’s plan.  These lies stop today.

You were created by God.  There is no weapon formed against you that will prosper because God is turning all things, ALL things to your good.

So, if you find yourself in the valley of the shadow of death, or cowering in the den of a lion, or oppressed, enslaved, addicted, depressed, anxious, fearful, doubtful, or just plain all screwed up.  It’s time to accept that life is not a test.  You haven’t failed some cosmic exam.  You are not condemned to live forever with the results of your mistakes.  You can be born again.  You can be saved.  You can learn from everything that came before and still not be defined by it.  You can step from the darkness into the light.  You can put your baggage down.  You can experience the power of the grace of God and start accepting things the way He sees them.

“Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow.  Where briers grew, myrtles will sprout up” – Isaiah 55 (NLT)

It’s time to realize that the only ones who fail are the ones who give up.  The only ones who don’t succeed are the ones who don’t want to learn.  The only ones who are defeated are the ones who don’t want  the victory.

You are loved.  You are blessed.  You are chosen.  You are empowered.  You are prepared.

Now get out there and start accepting the blessings that God has in store for you.

“The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands!” – Isaiah 55 (NLT)

By your logic, I can kill someone and should not have to suffer the consequences of my actions. I am somewhat insulted by this article because you are assuming that I make a big deal out of things that aren’t life and death… or I tend to overreact and punish myself for things that I shouldn’t punish myself about, which I don’t. You shouldn’t generalize people and I STILL agree that life is a test. Otherwise, how would we be able to take responsibility for our mishaps?!! Especially the big ones??! Life has consequences whether you like it or not. Deal!
