Christmas Abundance

Choosing Abundance

Christmas AbundanceWe have all benefited from the rich blessings He brought to us — one gracious blessing after another.

The story of Jesus Christ as it is told by John starts with these words:

“In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God. He was in the beginning with God. He created everything there is. Nothing exists that He didn’t make. Life itself was in Him, and this life gives light to everyone. The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. God sent John the Baptist to tell everyone about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was only a witness to the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was going to come into the world. But although the world was made through Him, the world didn’t recognize Him when He came. Even in His own land and among His own people, He was not accepted. But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn! This is not a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan — this rebirth comes from God. So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father. John pointed Him out to the people. He shouted to the crowds, “This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘Someone is coming who is far greater than I am, for He existed long before I did.'” We have all benefited from the rich blessings He brought to us — one gracious blessing after another.” – John 1 (NLT)

We have all benefited from the rich blessings He brought to us — one gracious blessing after another.

Rich and poor.  Black and white.  Old and young.  Christian and atheist.  Those who know and those who have yet to hear.  Everyone has benefitted from the fact that Jesus came to earth.  The world was forever changed in that moment when a cry was first heard coming from a manger in Bethlehem.  The world would never be the same again.

Whether or not you believe in Jesus, your world is better because Jesus Christ lives.  The fact.  The history.  The presence of God is not a matter of subjective opinion.  It’s not like God exists only for those who know about Him.  God is not a figment of your imagination.

John says,

“Although the world was made through Him, the world didn’t recognize Him when He came.”

He came into the world.   He was not accepted.  It doesn’t change the fact that He came.  Whether you are ready to accept Jesus today or you find it hard to believe that He exists, the objective fact is that Jesus Christ is who created you.  You were planned.  You were designed.  You were chosen by God to receive life and to discover everything that your creator has offered to provide for you.

John says,

“He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.”

Jesus.  God.  The creator.  Loves you.  Will never leave you.  Is faithful, dependable, constant, reliable, trustworthy, kind, never failing, always loving, perpetually providing, readily willing, fully capable, and more than enough in every way.  Life may be less about what you know and more about who you know.  Your creator, the one and only actual God, is introducing Himself to you.

John says,

“All who believe Him and accept Him, He gives the right to become children of God.”

Accepting Jesus isn’t just about confirming in your own mind that He exists or even that He loves you.  Accepting Jesus as the one and only God of your life is about realizing the full potential of what He is offering to make you — His own child.  You may not feel like you have been blessed with the best parents.  You may not have had the best experience growing up.  You may have struggled in school or been bullied rather than befriended.  You may think that you are just a cog in a wheel, not a centerpiece or a hero of your own story.  And yet, God — the God — is offering you the chance to receive His own inheritance.  It’s not about what you have made of yourself, it’s about who you are.  You are a child of God.  His inheritance is there for the taking.  You have the opportunity to be a person of destiny.  You have the chance to make something of yourself, put your flag in the ground, draw that line in the sand and declare that you are, in fact, a child of God.

John says,

“Life itself was in Him, and this life gives light to everyone.  He was the true light, who gives light to everyone.”

You may feel that you are waiting for something.  You may feel that you are looking for something.  You may feel that life has passed you by.  Those feelings stop today.  Jesus Christ has found you.  He has claimed you.  He has chosen you.

I have a friend who was adopted as a child.  For many years he struggled with the fact that his birth parents hadn’t wanted him.  He felt that his brother, who was actually the biological child of his adopted parents, was somehow more a part of their family than he was.  And so, after quite some time, he finally worked up the courage to bring it up with his parents.  “Are we actually family?  I mean, my brother is really your family.  I’m just the adopted kid whose original parents didn’t want him.”  His parents, without hesitation, said something that has always stuck with me, “On the contrary, from all the children in the world, we chose you.  We could have chosen anyone, but we chose you.”

John says,

“The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”

The life that God is offering you today is more than just getting by.  It’s more than just surviving.  It’s more than just basic success or material accomplishment like you might find prescribed in any self-help book at the grocery store.  The life that God is offering you today is a life that will shine through the darkness and bring on God’s blessings so abundantly that those who would oppose it can not stand against it.  The darkness doesn’t stand a chance because the light that is shining on you is a spotlight direct from God.

God is saying,

“Take a look at your life.  Is this the life you want to be living?  Is this the best you can believe for?  Is this the best I can do for you?  I want to give you more.  I want to show you the way.  I want to open the floodgates of heaven and pour out an abundance of blessings on you.  Your life will never be the same again.  I have chosen you.  You are my child.  Everything that I have is yours.  Are you ready?  All you have to say is, ‘Yes’.

Throw away the mindset of lack.  Put away the perspective of defeat.  Let go of the messages that the enemy has been telling you for far too long and step into the life that God is offering you today.  All you have to say is “Yes, I choose Jesus Christ as my only God and Savior.  I choose the life that He is offering me.  I choose victory and not defeat.  I choose abundance and not lack.  I choose health and not disease. I choose prosperity and not despair.  I choose joy.  I choose peace.  I choose fulfillment.  I choose everything that God is offering me and a willingness to accept more when it comes my way.  I say ‘Yes’ to the life that God has in store for me, ‘Yes’ to His promises to bless me, ‘Yes’ to His plan to restore, heal, and promote me, ‘Yes’ to His ability to extend my reach to influence, lead, connect with, and serve other people with the life that He is giving me.  I say ‘Yes’ to my creator.  I am ready to be His child.  I am ready to receive my inheritance.  I am ready to become everything that God believes, knows, and has promised I can be.  I am a child of God.  I was born on purpose.  I am a person of destiny.  God is going to use me to bring His blessings into this world.”

If you will say “Yes” to God today, He will take you places you can hardly even imagine.  Get ready.  God’s abundance is on the way.

Every time I say “yes!” I remember my gold within – the abundance of life from God – and again experience gratitude. And then I can accept the feelings of being “less than,” broken, unworthy that come into my mind. Those thoughts give way then to the realization that I am indeed chosen by God! And then I am free to speak and act from that divine love within, which is unlimited and all powerful! It is such a joy to live this way! And remembering who I am – a child of God – works every time to begin to be stingy with my self, my neighbor, or my God. Thanks for the encouragement, Stephen!
